Ken DeMoura is a founding partner of DeMoura|Smith LLP. Ken is an accomplished trial attorney and counselor to individuals and businesses. Since 1986, he has appeared before all state and federal courts in Massachusetts and handles a wide range of matters including commercial disputes, product liability, employment, intellectual property, personal injury, partnership, banking, construction, professional liability, criminal and bankruptcy cases.
Ken has successfully tried dozens of cases to verdict, handled over 50 arbitration matters, and obtained multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements for his clients.
He is also a certified mediator and commercial arbitrator. He is a frequent lecturer and presenter at national and local legal conferences on trial practice and substantive legal topics. In addition to his own caseload of trial matters, Ken is often called upon, on the eve of trial, to appear as trial counsel, by litigators and other attorneys who do not try cases.
Ken’s trial work and expertise have been nationally recognized and locally noted. In 2024, he was named a Go-To Business Litigation attorney by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. He is Past-President of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyers organization limited to less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. He has served as chairperson of the Complex Commercial Litigation Institute and currently serves as its treasurer and board member.
Ken has been recognized by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America since 2012. He is recognized in that publication for his work in Business Litigation, and on Products Liability and Mass Tort/Class Action matters. From 2021 to 2024, he served as a member of the Steering Committee for the Boston Bar Association Business and Commercial Litigation Section. He is currently Co-Dean of the Trial Law Institute, an association of trial lawyers established to perpetuate, elevate, and preserve the art of trial presentation and techniques, and to advance and educate on new technologies designed to enhance the admission of evidence in courtroom settings.
Since 2005, Ken has been recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer and included in the Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel edition in the area of business litigation since 2010. Ken has an AV® Preeminent™ Peer-Review rating from Martindale-Hubbell. In 2014, he was selected as “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in America in the mass tort litigation and class action defense category for Boston. Ken is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Before starting DeMoura|Smith LLP in 2012, Ken was a litigation partner at a national law firm. He previously managed the Boston office of a regional law firm from 2001 to 2007. In 1987, he tried criminal cases as a Special Prosecutor for the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office. He started his legal career as an associate in the Boston law firm Bingham Dana & Gould, where he worked from 1986 to 1994. From 1987 until 2013, Ken was an adjunct professor of law at New England School of Law. He has also served as an advisor to the Trial Advocacy Workshop at Harvard Law School since 1991.
Ken received his J.D., magna cum laude, in 1986 from New England School of Law and a B.A. in political science, summa cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 1983. While a law student, he interned at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office in the Public Charities division.
